What We Leave Behind

Art made from what others discard.

What We Leave Behind is Inkundla’s multidisciplinary visual art programme, led by Isha H.S Kamara. Every piece is made entirely from discarded materials — objects thrown away, overlooked, forgotten. Sculptures, installations, and visual work built from what others have cast aside.

The question at the centre of everything: what does our waste say about who we are, and what beauty can be found in what others discard?

The exhibition

The programme began with an exhibition at Aurora Foundation, 35 Fraser Street, Freetown, where Isha and collaborators transformed found materials into an evening of art, process, and shared reflection. Attendees were invited not just to look, but to sit with the work and engage with the questions it raised.

Into the classroom

What We Leave Behind has since moved beyond the gallery. In 2026, Isha brought the same question into Kreative Workshops at EducAid Sierra Leone — leading students through the process of turning plastic PET bottles into art. Cutting, shaping, imagining what something discarded could become. The students answered loudly.

This is not just an exhibition. It is a question we keep asking, in different spaces, with different hands.
