In July 2026, Inkundla Spaces brought together ten artists in Kenema for a week of creative workshops covering spoken word and music production. Sparky B3at produced and recorded throughout the week, while Wizik documented the process on film. The result was more than a programme, it was a week of serious creative work with people who have been building something in Kenema for a long time.
The artists you will meet below have been writing, performing, producing, and organising in Sierra Leone’s Eastern Province with or without institutional support. This was a chance to work together, properly, with the time and resources to do it right.
The workshops were delivered as part of the Culture Moves Salone programme, funded by the EU Delegation to Sierra Leone and the Government of Ireland.
The Artists
Lady Ashanti
A cultural artist from Kenema, Sierra Leone. Performing as Lady Ashanti, she moves between music, dance, and storytelling to celebrate Sierra Leonean heritage. Her work is a love letter to the culture she comes from.
Aim Vein
A singer, songwriter and performer based in Kenema, Sierra Leone. His sound sits in the Afro fusion space, blending influences into something distinctly his own. He coordinates open mics for Inkundla Spaces in Kenema, keeping the city’s creative scene moving.
Nyawai Amie
A cultural singer, songwriter and performer based in Kenema, Sierra Leone. Her work is rooted in culture, carrying the sounds and stories of where she comes from into everything she makes.
Safari
A singer-songwriter from Kenema District, Sierra Leone. A one-time Kenema Got Talent contestant, Safari creates versatile, live-driven music that means something. Beyond the stage, he’s a collaborator at heart, using his talent to give back to his community.
T-Sky
A singer and songwriter based in Kenema, in the Eastern part of Sierra Leone. His sound moves across Afrobeats, R&B and Melodic Rap, pulling from each without being pinned down to one. There is a fluidity to what he does that makes it hard to put in a box, which is exactly the point.
Excellence B
An Afrobeat artist and songwriter from Kenema, Sierra Leone. A proud member of Shakit Entertainment, Excellence B makes music that is authentically his and unapologetically Sierra Leonean. His work is driven by a simple conviction: that the stories and sounds of Sierra Leone deserve to be heard.
Siaka Genda
A writer, spoken word artist, public speaker and advocate based in Kenema, Sierra Leone. His work sits at the intersection of art and social conscience, using language to speak to the realities of the communities around him. He brings the same urgency to the page as he does to the stage.
Admire Bonnie
A spoken word artist and creative facilitator based in Freetown, Sierra Leone. She curates Poetry Korna, Inkundla Spaces’ digital literary journal, and has been a steady presence in building Freetown’s spoken word scene. Her work moves between the page, the stage, and the spaces in between.
Medish
Medish runs Medish Music Records in Kenema, Sierra Leone. Most of his work happens behind the scenes, building the infrastructure that artists need to grow. Outside of music, he’s active as an advocate and philanthropist, putting time and resources into his community.
Legendary001
A rapper, songwriter, and actor based in Freetown, Sierra Leone. One half of BBLI, a hip-hop duo known for infusing beatboxing into their live performances. His work spans the studio and the stage, drawing from both lyrical craft and an engaging approach to performance.
Sparky B3at
A music producer and sound engineer based in Sierra Leone. His work is grounded in authenticity, and he brings a genuine curiosity to his craft, always learning and pushing what he can do with sound. Whether behind the boards or in the studio, he treats every session as a chance to grow.
Wizik
A filmmaker and cinematographer from Freetown, Sierra Leone. Co-founder of Distant Relatives (DSTNT RLTVS), a creative hub working across film, photography, and design. Over eight years, he has built a body of work that pushes for authentic African narratives told with a distinct eye.
