Wi Kreative Playgron 30 May

On May 30th, we took a giant leap forward by renaming our monthly creative space from pop-up spaces to Wi Kreative Playgron. This new name resonates deeply with our vision and perfectly encapsulates what the space is and aims to achieve.

Wi Kreative Playgron, or “Our Creative Playground,” is a platform where diverse artists come together to share their experiences, spark dialogue, and drive social change. The event on May 30th marked the beginning of this new era, featuring an impressive lineup of poets, musicians, and visual artists.

Our poets for the evening included The-Ri@m, a Spoken Word artist, poet, and writer from Freetown, whose performances captivated the audience. Sam and Doc Bryant also graced the stage, letting their powerful poetry speak volumes and leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.

Musically, the event showcased Take Am Easy from Banko village, whose unique self-made instrumentals brought the Sierra Leonean soundscape to life. Adding an international touch, Benjamin from Germany enchanted the crowd with his handpan sounds, bringing joy, peace, and a touch of magic to the evening.

Visual art was represented by Blaq, also known as Michael Nichol Kamara, whose captivating artwork told untold stories through spoken word and painting. His pieces added a rich visual layer to the event, enhancing the overall experience.

The evening was made possible with the support of our sponsors, including the Aurora Foundation and VAfrica. The Aurora Foundation’s sponsorship was instrumental in bringing the event to life, while VAfrica provided low-cost photography services to capture the essence of the evening.

Wi Kreative Playgron has set the stage for future events, promising more opportunities for artists to share their stories, inspire change, and build connections. As we look forward to the next installment, we remain committed to nurturing this creative playground where art, music, and poetry can flourish.
