On the last Thursday of June, we gathered for another phenomenal Wi Kreative Playgron, featuring a lineup of thought-provoking poets, pioneering musicians, and visual artists who took us on a journey through their unique perspectives of existence. As part of our tradition, the evening included a DJ set that kept everyone dancing during breaks and after the acts, accompanied by delicious tacos.

Featured Poets

Taurus and AbuBakarr The Poet shared their perspectives on love and relationships through their powerful poetry. Taurus loves to use words to build bridges connecting our emotions, feelings, thoughts, and intentions with our reality. AbuBakarr The Poet cultivates thoughts, turns them into words, waters them with emotions, and harvests cries and smiles simultaneously.

Featured Dance Group

KFK Empire, an arts group excelling in dance, acting, and other creative arts, were unable to join us. We look forward to having them another day.

Featured Musicians

Maadkid Jordan brought the house down with his deep hip-hop tunes. A singer and songwriter who made his musical debut in 2020, Maadkid gained attention with his first single and released a mixtape EP in 2021 featuring hits like “Tae Chay Me,” “Keep You Safe,” and “We Dae Kam.” He has been featured in numerous projects and performed on major stages in Sierra Leone. Batiloo, a casual natural musician often found playing his music for passersby on Lamlley Beach, touched hearts with his authentic and original sound, accompanied by lyrics that reflect everyday life in Sierra Leone.

Featured Visual Artist

Our featured visual artist, TheJoyGborie, is an Artist, Reality TV Star, 2nd Runner-Up in Big Sister Season 3, Best Female Photographer of 2019, Journalist, Creative, Salone Uman, and anything she wants to be. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to join us though we look forward to hosting her in the future.

DJ and Host

The DJ for the night, Hus, spun Afro-House sets that kept the energy lively. As Hus says, “DJs left us alone in Salone, someone had to do it.” Our charismatic host, S’phongo, ensured each performance flowed smoothly into the next, maintaining high energy throughout the evening.

Open Mic

We also featured an engaging open mic session where we heard from a lineup of talented poets. Alice captivated the audience with her evocative verses, while Nulu shared poignant reflections through his poetry. Admire Bonnie brought a unique voice to the stage, delivering powerful performances that resonated deeply with those present. Dee’s passionate performance added depth to the evening, and S’phongo, with his dynamic style, kept the energy high and the audience enthralled. Each performer brought their own flair and perspective, making the open mic a highlight of the event and showcasing the incredible talent within our community.

Food and Refreshments

The gentlemen from Bureh Beach returned with their mouth-watering fish tacos, bursting with flavor, along with a delicious vegetable option for those who prefer it. Our bar was fully stocked, ready to quench everyone’s thirst with a range of drinks and free Vodka shots.
